MAYES; Joan May (nee Pepper). December 1, 1932 ~ April 16, 2014. Passed away after a wonderful life. Leaving her beloved husband Don, of more than 62 years, and her proudest achievement and legacy, her family. Joan was predeceased by her sister Barbara and brother Michael, and is survived by brothers David and Graham, her sister, Jane and sister-in-law Barbara who reside in England; her daughters, Joanne (Gordon) Veltkamp, Donna (Bob) Rolls; her four grandchildren, Barb, Don, Shanna and Erin; and her six great grandchildren, Alex, Olivia, Finn, Jacob, Mackenzie and Emma, with her seventh due in July. Joan was born in Leicester, England and met Don at a dance at the Aylestone Parish Hall in 1948. Don looked across the hall and seeing Joan said to his friend "that's the one for me". Joan and Don fulfilled a cherished dream in 1968 when the family immigrated to Vancouver. Joan loved the outdoors, camping, gardening, reading and traveling, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She leaves us with many treasured memories and we will be forever thankful for all the fine years she graced our lives. A celebration of Joan's life will be held on Sunday June 8th, 1:00 pm, Langley Golf Centre, 21550 - 44th Ave., Langley.
