Jan 25, 1947 - Apr 17, 2018
John was a lifelong Mission resident, born in the original Mission hospital on January 25, 1947. John passed away April 17, 2018 in the current Mission Memorial Hospital.

Predeceased by his parents Walter and Betty and sister Margaret.

Survived by wife Cora, daughters Corinne (Bryan) and Yvonne (Kapil), grandchildren Alexander and Emma, cherished pups Willie and Cheemo, many family and friends.

He worked most of his working years as a mill worker at Whonnock Lumber, which later became Pioneer Lumber.

Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, mechanics, puttering in his shop and the casino. John was a self proclaimed "Jack of all trades, master of none".

A recycler at heart, he was often heard reminding everyone that "one man's trash, was another man's treasure". He could often be found dumpster diving for scrap wood, driving the streets of Mission for a clean up week treasure, and bottle and can picking up Burma Road. His nickname was well earned, because he certainly did have a "hawk eye". He was very much a story teller that would talk ANY ear off. And if you chatted (listened) long enough, he would be certain to cement his name in your brain with his coined phrase "Johns' the name and Smiths' the game".

Memorial service to be held Saturday May 12, 2018,  1-3 pm at Bakerview Celebration Centre, located at 34863 Cemetary Ave, Mission BC.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
