Kathleen MORLEY

October 12, 2008

MORLEY, KATHLEEN

Passed away peacefully on Sunday October 12, 2008 at the Cottage Pavilion in Abbotsford. Survived by her husband William John and pre-deceased by her sister Mabel in 2002. Kathleen was born April 6, 1915 in Bradford, England. She spent 4 years studying in Aberystwyth, Wales where her main subject was Geography. In her fourth year she studied Education and was one of only two graduates to receive 1st Class Honours. In January, 1938, it took the persistence of 60 applications to get a post in a grammar school where her future husband, William John Morley had started in 1937. Kathleen taught in Bicester as well as Canterbury before moving to Ottawa, Ontario in April 1948. Here she quickly landed a job in the Geographical Bureau. In 1949, Kathleen began a new job at Bell Telephone in Montreal and was valued highly for her work in problem solving. In 1952, Kathleen and John moved to Langley and eventually Abbotsford.

Here they owned 7 lovely hectares on King Road which is now the site of Suite Dreams Bed & Breakfast. Shortly after moving west, Kathleen was appointed the librarian of the original Abbotsford Junior High School. She retired in 1972 and was widely remembered with affection and respect by many of her former students.

Family would like to thank Cottage Pavilion staff for their wonderful care and support. Kathleen will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Maclure Road Cemetery in Abbotsford.
