LaNora Metzger

February 7, 1938 – November 19, 2019
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Nora’s passing. Nora was born in Elma Washington and after obtaining her RN at the Tacoma General School of Nursing, moved to Canada in 1958 with her husband Wes. In the early 60’s the couple moved back to The Elma area and had two daughters Shelly and Linda. In the late 60’s they again headed back to Vanderhoof, where Nora worked at the St John’s Hospital in Vanderhoof as Director of Nursing and the family had a small farm. In 1974 the family then moved to Williams Lake, where Nora took on her role as Director of Nursing at Cariboo Memorial until the mid 1980’s. In 1990 Nora moved to Mission where she loved the weather (and no snow!) and continued to Nurse there at the Long-term Care facility until her retirement in 1996.
Nora will be remember as being incredibly smart, with a quirky sense of humour. She was independent, brave, an extremely talented cook and seamstress, a homebody who was comfortable being by herself. She was (unbeknownst to herself) a role model for many women and loved by so many.
Nora is survived by her daughters Shelly (Bill) of Williams Lake, BC and Linda of Bonner’s Ferry Idaho as well as her grandchildren Randi-Lynn (Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho), Zane (Lapine, Oregon), Ben (Lapine, Oregon) and 7 great grandchildren. She leaves behind her sister Tena, her much loved brother in law John as well as some favourite nephews Dennis and John and her ex-husband (who turned into a dear friend) Wesley. Nora was
predeceased by her parents (Oscar and Elizabeth) her beloved sister and best friend Susan and her nephew Carl.
Mom did not want “any fuss” so a small open house will be held in Mission in the Spring of 2020.
