LECK, Leila Kathleen

Leila (Lee) Kathleen Leck died peacefully on October 5, 2014 at Abbotsford Hospital. She was born March 31, 1921 in Brandon, Manitoba to Dr. H. O. and Margaret Galloway McDiarmid. Lee attended schools in Brandon before graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science Home Economics degree. She was then a student Dietitian at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. A short working career as a Dietitian in the Brandon General Hospital and the Hudson's Bay in Vancouver followed. On September 13, 1947 Lee married Ronald Henry Leck of Vancouver. He was her beloved husband and best friend for over 65 years, until his death in 2012. She is survived by her four children, Noreen, Harris (Fran), Margaret, Chris (Shelley) and was Nana to 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Leila (to her immediate family) was predeceased by Ron and her siblings Bud, Nina, Jack and Mona and her much loved son-in-law Neil Van Duffelen. There are many nieces and nephews, and it was this extended family which brought great meaning to her life. Because of this love of family, Lee became a dedicated Genealogist and compiled three family histories. Volunteering was important to her, especially at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg where she became President of the Guild. She loved the years spent in the Mission Community Archives and the friends made there. Ron and Lee lived in Mission for 32 years before moving to be with their daughter Margaret and grandson Jesse. A Celebration of Life and reception will be held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home on October 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm. No flowers please. Instead, Lee asks that you do a favour for someone and smile at everyone you meet. Pay it forward. Lee will be missed by her family and friends and will be remembered as a loving and compassionate woman. Special thanks to the wonderful workers from Fraser Valley Home Support whose care allowed Lee to remain at home. Thank you also to Dr. Danescu and the staff at the ARHCC for their wonderful care on numerous hospital admissions.
