MacArthur,Lila Stephania

(nee Horysio)

January 4, 1918 - June 28, 2008

It is in sorrow that we announce the passing of Lila MacArthur on Saturday, June 28, 2008. Predeceased by her loving husband Mac in 2007 and daughter Bonnie in 1990, Lila died surrounded by her family, peacefully and free of pain.

Born in Brightstone, just outside of Lac de Bonnie, Winnipeg into a large family including four sisters and two brothers, Lila was a vivacious and remarkable woman. As a teenager, Lila and her sisters helped run a small deli where she met her future husband Mac. The two were married January 15, 1943 beginning a life of adventure and love. The two traveled extensively, as Mac was an RCMP officer, and lived in Whitemouth, Portage La Prarie, Bissett, Teulon, Flin Flon, Dauphin, Ottawa, Prince Rupert, Prince George, Chilliwack, and finally in Abbotsford. Mac and Lila boasted a loving marriage of over 65 years and it is no doubt the two are happy to be reunited.

Lila was an exceptional wife and mother, and everyone who knew her understood that family was of paramount priority. She was the heart of the family, and hosted countless meals, banquets and celebrations, making each a first class experience every time. She was a phenomenal cook with exceptional taste, and with only the most meager of ingredients, could make a feast. She truly was a renaissance woman as she possessed a cunning wit and loved to talk politics and gossip, was an expert gardener and seamstress, could knit afghans and sweaters, and could fix virtually anything. Always classy, Lila dressed in her best, and loved to shop in the finer boutiques. She loved a dry martini and a great meal with loved ones, and took time to show she cared. She turned heads no matter where she went and was adored by all who knew her.

Lila will be missed and remembered by many, including her son Cliff (Ethel), son-in-law Len (Val), and grandchildren Karen (Marvin), Rob (Firli), Alison (Paul), Jaimie (Daniel), Tracie (Rod), and Elizabeth, as well as her eight great-grandchildren: Morgan and Jordan, Waffa and Siffa, Andrew and Heather, Melodie and Tanya.

A celebration of her life will be held at Hallmark Assisted Living in Abbotsford, B.C. on July 5th, 2008. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the charity of your choice.
