FRIESEN, Lorelei Mae
May 10, 1957 – Aug. 20, 2010
Lorelei Friesen passed away on August 20, 2010 following an eighteen month battle with brain cancer. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Salem Alliance Church in Salem, Oregon to remember her extraordinary life. Lorelei was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada. A few years later, her family moved to Abbotsford, where she excelled in school and began her piano studies through the Royal Conservatory of Music. After finishing high school at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School and taking one year of college, Lorelei toured internationally for two years as a vocalist with Benson recording artists, Sound Alliance.
Lorelei married Ronald J. Friesen, on July 5, 1980 in Abbotsford, BC. One year later, she and Ron moved to Chilliwack, BC where she continued her music studies, taught private piano students, and gave birth to her son, Justin. Lorelei and Ron moved to Oregon in 1985 to provide music and worship leadership at Salem Alliance Church. It was while living there that Lorelei also pursued jazz piano studies and established herself as a much sought after private piano teacher. She also gave birth to her daughter, Sheena, became deeply involved in support and recovery work and completed a degree in psychology through Western Oregon University. In 2004, Lorelei, Ron and their teenage daughter moved to Paris, France where she was the director of music and worship and Ron was the pastor of Trinity International Church. To describe her adventures, mishaps and spiritual journey in France to family and friends, Lorelei began writing monthly installments called Baguettes. These memoirs have since gained a worldwide readership and will soon be republished in an expanded book titled, The Paris Baguette: Journals of a Protestant in Paris. Lorelei is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Justin; daughter, Sheena; parents, Bill and Hazel Thiessen; sister, Sherri Rempel; brother, Greg; and many, many friends spread all over this globe. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lorelei Friesen Memorial Fund at Salem Alliance Church, 555 Gaines St, NE, Salem, Oregon 97301.
