GARBET; Lorne George

December 14, 1938 ~ July 18, 2015

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Lorne passed away on July 18th surrounded by family. Lorne was born in Port Alberni, BC and soon moved to the Fraser Valley, which became home. Upon graduating from Mission Secondary School in 1956, he enlisted in the military becoming a member of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. While proudly serving his country, Lorne developed a love of travel and meeting new people. This passion led him to visit Europe, Australia and all over North America. Lorne also placed great value on family and friends. He always made others feel important and valued. His sharp sense of humour and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Marie (Fortin), son Brian and wife Stephanie (Kurmey), daughter Barb Mitchell and husband Rob and grandson Dylan, sister Beverly Brown, nieces Debbie Mooney and Shelley Culicerto, grand-nieces Allison, Ashley and Jenny and grand-nephew Ben. A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 57 in Mission on Saturday, August 8th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Lorne's favourite charities in his name: Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 57), BC SPCA, BC Cancer Agency or the Salvation Army.
