January 20, 1943 - November 4, 2024
In loving memory ~
Margaret Elaine Dickman passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on November 4, 2024, with her entire family by her side. Margaret was born to John Wilmot and Annie Madeline Mundie on January 20, 1943, in Saint Stephen, N.B. She was the youngest child of four, with her three siblings that predeceased her: John Mundie, Helene Gullison and Walter Mundie.
Margaret leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Frank, her two amazing children Andrea (Jake) Friesen and Ryan (Ran) Dickman and her favourite grandchildren who were everything to her and that she was so proud of: Olivia, Erica and Adrian Friesen, Frank Samuel, Oliver, Jolise and Annabel Dickman. She was also survived by sister-in-laws Thelma Mundie, Louise Dickman, Elsie Rempel, Frieda (Ahti) Halonen.
She was a super special favourite Aunt to many nieces and nephews who loved her with all their hearts. At the age of 22, Margaret boarded a train at the McAdam Railway Station in New Brunswick and left on an adventure to meet up with hometown friends and work for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Vancouver, B.C. It was soon after she arrived in B.C. that she found herself some B.C. parents and siblings with the Purdy family.
She met and married Frank on September 9, 1967 after a whirlwind five month courtship. "You know when it is right" and she really liked his work boots. They spent 36 years in Abbotsford where they raised two spectacular children, Andrea born 1971 and Ryan born 1974. It was here our mother spent her time devoted to driving us to every practice, game, brownie or beaver meeting and volunteering for absolutely everything. Once her children graduated, Margaret went back to work bookkeeping, baking at a coffee shop and later managing Brussels Chocolates.
When grandchildren came into their lives, Frank and Margaret made the decision to move closer to them and moved to Parksville, B.C. in 2006. They made a community of great friends on Magnolia Drive with their new favorite children Jackie and Glen among them.
Above everything else Margaret loved to talk and visit and get to know people and their lives, especially if there were connections to her beloved N.B. She loved having people visit her and also visiting family and friends across the country. Her favourite thing that happened to her this year was having her beautiful nieces Kim, Gail and Sheila come from Saint Stephen, NB to spend the week with her. Family was everything to her and she loved them all.
We are very thankful for the exceptional care she received from Dr. Booth, Dr. Dalla Lana and Dr. Ontko and also the nursing staff during her very short time at NRGH palliative care unit.
A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 1-4 at 1446 Station Road, Coombs, B.C. All are welcome to this informal program with refreshments. Bring your memories to share. Please RSVP frank.a.dickman@gmail.com
