It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Maria Bekkers on Sunday October 9, 2022 at the age of 98 years.
Mary was born in Sint Oedenrode in the Netherlands on January 25, 1924 to Johannus and Hendrika Konings. Mary met and married her late husband Marinus after the War, immigrated to Canada soon after to begin a new life together. In Canada they started farming and began their family. Mary was the only sibling of 9 who left the Netherlands and as a result she enjoyed traveling back to her homeland to visit her family. Mary will always be remembered for her love and hard work on the farm helping to make a good life for the family. She was also a couture seamstress, an avid and accomplished knitter, crocheter, tatter and gardener which filled any spare time.
In Mary's later years she took up and enjoyed playing golf. She also enjoyed her camaraderie in playing cards, bingo and visiting the casino.
Mary is survived by her son John (Margaret) and two daughters Betty (Eliseo) and Henny (Gary), ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, sister Anna and Brother Harry (Sejan). Mary is predeceased by her husband Marinus and son Barry.
