December 22, 2024
Marilyn Phillips (1940-2024) passed away peacefully at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on December 22, 2024, following a catastrophic stroke. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Marilyn later relocated to British Columbia.
As an intelligent, hard-working, and independent woman, she navigated the challenges of being a newly single mother of two by putting herself through school to complete the Chartered Accounting program at Simon Fraser University, launching a successful career in a male-dominated field.
Marilyn was a devoted mother and grandmother, preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and William, her brother, Bill, and her beloved dog, Jayne.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Brian) and Rebecca (John), and Rebecca's children, Joshua and Bethani.
A lover of travel, her family will forever cherish the memories of the wonderful trips she organized, including a dream trip to the Galapagos Islands. Her pragmatic personality was beautifully balanced by a quirky sense of humour, bringing joy with rousing sing-a-longs of old classics like "Buffalo Gals."
Throughout her life, Marilyn was a passionate and generous volunteer, serving as treasurer for multiple organizations, driving cancer patients for treatment, and raising thousands of dollars for various causes. Her many friends and Mews neighbours remember her as a kind, dedicated, and energetic friend and community member.
A memorial service will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday, January 26 in the Amenities Room of The Mews at 33755 7th Avenue, Mission.
Marilyn would be honoured by donations to WorldVision.ca or saintsrescue.ca in her name.
