DYCK; Mary

1924 ~ 2016

Mary was born in Schoenau, Russia on April 13, 1924 and passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on October 21, 2016 at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her 4 children Ruth (Don) Sawatzky, Miriam (Les) Dahl, Louise Goudie, Alf (Pam), 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, sister Elizabeth Thiessen, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John in 1968, granddaughter Lisa and her unborn child, brothers Abe, Henry and John and sister Annie. Mary came to Canada at the age of 3 months and grew up in Southern Alberta. There she met the love of her life, John Dyck. They married and moved to Three Hills where they attended Prairie Bible Institute. Their eldest, Ruth, was born there. They then moved to Oliver, BC where they settled and Miriam, Louise, and Alf joined the family. Mom learned to drive and manage the household affairs just before her husband passed away, and in the following years until retirement worked in the local packing houses, processing the many fruits of the Okanagan Valley. After retirement she sold the family home and moved to Abbotsford, buying, renovating and redecorating an apartment. She then moved into Menno Terrace for a number of years before going into the guest suite at Alf and Pam’s and then into assisted living at Sherwood Crescent and then to The Mayfair. She was able to travel before and in her retirement. There were road trips with her kids and their families; trips to Jamaica, with or without family members; and a cruise with Aunt Annie and friends. Mom had a caring heart and supported many ministries over the years; The Billy Graham Association, The Far East Broadcasting Company, The Prairie Bible Institute, and Wycliffe Canada. The family would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, a donation made in her memory to Wycliffe Canada www.wycliffe.ca. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Central Heights MB Church, Nikkel Hall, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford, BC. Online condolences to the family may be made at:
