THOMAS, Mia Elena
Cherished daughter to Riitta and Mike Thomas, sister to Raul (Julie), Cristina (Richard), Isabel, Sonia (Tariq), and dear auntie to Paul and Daniel Champagne, Anna and Claire Thomas, and Jennika Joyce, passed away on Nov. 19th 2009 in Mission, B.C. Mia was born in London, England on July 17th 1966. She spent her first 9 years in England and Germany before emigrating with her family to Canada and settling in Mission, B.C. She graduated from MSS with honours, with a BSc from UBC and subsequently graduated from the Journalism Programme at Langara College leading her into her chosen career. Mia loved traveling and made a point of doing just that most of her adult life, making friends along the way. Her travel diaries, which she e-mailed to her family and friends, were a joy to read. Those who knew her, will miss her big smile, her hearty laughter, her great sense of humour and her generosity. We also witnessed her courage accepting her fate, when the rest of us could not. She will also be dearly missed by her family in Finland, Norway and Ireland, and extended family and friends in England, Germany, Uruguay, New Zealand, USA and from across Canada. The family would like to thank her many friends for their support in these difficult times, also the staff at Christine Morrison Hospice for their care. Au revoir Mia, we will never forget you and thank you for enriching our lives. We will meet again. A celebration of Mia’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5th 2009 at 1pm at Carrington House, 32679 Sixth Avenue, Mission [entrance from 7th Avenue]. In lieu of flowers a donation in Mia’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Christine Morrison Hospice [Mission, B.C.] would be appreciated.
