February 8, 1935 - April 2, 2020
Mohinder Singh Panun, of Timberlea, NS, age 85, passed away suddenly, at home, on the morning of April 2, 2020.
Born February 8, 1935 in the village of Akurpura, Punjab, India, second of four children, he was the son of the late Lt. Col. Atma Singh Panun and the late Joginder Kaur (Parmar).
After completing his education in Delhi, India, he immigrated to Canada in 1959, worked his way across Canada and arrived in Montreal in 1962 where he eventually married Sandra and began his family.
Dad, known also as Mohinder Veera to his Indian family and friends and Moe to his many Canadian friends, had a gypsy spirit and a resourceful and entrepreneurial nature. He lived and worked in multiple locations throughout Canada - logging in BC, teaching in Winnipeg and Toronto and salesman and business owner in Montreal, Niagara Falls, Moncton and Mission, BC. He certainly had a diverse resume!
After a health setback and wanting to be closer to his grandchildren, in 2006 he moved from Mission to Halifax. Despite declining health and increasing confinement to home he kept in close touch, via the internet, with his extended family throughout the world. And he never missed a day in following the news and political events of Canada and India, particularly of his beloved Punjab.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Pavan Paul, Moncton, NB; Nisha Panun (Richard Boudreau), Quispamsis, NB; Devan Atma (Liz Haworth), Chilliwack, BC and Aisha MacDonald (Forbes), Hubley, NS; sisters Kulwant Dhillon (Harmohinder), Chandigarh, India and Kulvinder Waraich (Jotinder), Niagara Falls, ON; sister-in-law Balvinder Pannu, Chandigarh, India; grandchildren: Cameron Moseley, Devin Boudreau, Calem & Logan MacDonald; his many nieces and nephews and their children; his former wife Sandra and his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Devinder Singh Pannu (2013) and nephew Vikramjit Singh Dhillon (1991).
A special thank you to Drew Mills who remained a reliable and supportive friend to Dad. And thank you to his caregivers who gave him companionship and friendship. He appreciated everyone.
