Paul Mattias Nikula, born April 15, 1925 in Stave Falls, and one of the last remaining pioneers of the area, passed away on March 13, 2008 at Ridge Meadows Hospital at the age of 82 years. Paul was predeceased by his son, John in 1999; as well as his sisters, Esther, Jennie and Helen.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 55 years, Juliana; sons, Gene and Jack (Susan); daughter, Rolanda (Len), daughter-in-law, Mary; sister, Ellen from North York, ON; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jessica, Jeffrey, Brandon, Matthew, Rachelle and Andrew as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was a World War II Veteran, Canadian Scottish Regiment and served overseas for almost 3 years in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mission Branch #57, for 60 years.
A funeral service was held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
