WOOD; Phyllis Cicily. Jan. 20, 1921 ~ Oct. 11, 2013. Phyllis Cicily Wood, 92, of Mission, died October 11, 2013. She was born January 10, 1921 in a small town called Brancepeth, Saskatchewan which is 25 miles south of Prince Albert where she grew up on the family farm with her sister Ellen. In 1939 the Second World War broke out. In 1943, at the age of 22, Phyllis went east to Ontario to worked in an airframe and munitions factory. She returned home to help her father with the farm work as all the men had gone to war. When James Alex Wood returned home from the war in April 1945 Phyllis played a major role in nursing him back to health. They were married June 28, 1945 and settled in Saskatoon, Sask. Alex and Phyllis had known each other since childhood as the family farms were nearby. They were married for 68 years. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Dr. Alex Wood, sons Brian and Murray Wood and granddaughter, Sophie Wood. Phyllis made the decision to focus her energies and life on being a wife, mother and community leader. She was very active in their Saskatoon church, St. Andrews United Church, and was very involved with the Sunday school and fund raisers. Next to her family, gardening was her love. She developed award winning gardens and the home was always filled with flowers. We shall miss her love, wisdom, and her beautiful bouquets. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
