Robert Jacob WEDEL

March 10, 2006

Robert Jacob - born in Abbotsford, June 17, 1953 died on March 10, 2006 after a long and amazingly brave battle with cancer.  He was predeceased by his mother Christina (nee Quiring), father Henry, and brother David.  He will be terribly missed by the love of his life, wife Trudy, devoted step-children, Alberta (Martin), Ben (Tanya), and Jacob; his sister Brenda (Steve), brother Daniel (Elaine) and step-mother Margaret.  Of his four dear grandchildren, he will be missed most by his best buddy grandson Hamish and he also leaves behind his very special constant companion “Bear-Dog”. He also leaves behind his dearly loved nieces and nephews, his loyal colleagues and friends, numerous extended family and a staggering number of community support people.

Robert derived great satisfaction from his work promoting adult literacy and was recognized for his efforts.  He was also a staunch supporter of organized labour, an union activist, and a champion of workplace literacy. Robert never shied away from a challenge, at work or at home, especially in raising his step children and in facing the debilitating illness that also took his mother. The closing ceremony on Robert’s rich and varied life will be held 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd, Abbotsford, BC.
