McGIMPSEY; Robert William

July 11, 1926 ~ September 5, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to our much loved husband, father, Papa and great Papa on Monday, September 5. He leaves to celebrate his wonderful life, his loving wife of 65 years, Audrey; his son John (Deb), his daughters-in-law Polly (Russ) and Rita; his grandchildren Jenna (Derek), Michael (Paige), Sarah (Guillaume), Bradley (Crystal), Brent (Andrina), Meagan (Matt); also 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Brooklyn and #4 due any day; sisters Muriel Brothers, Beverly McGimpsey; and brothers David and Tom (Audrey) McGimpsey; as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his two sons Douglas Ward (1997), Richard Michael (2003); sisters Irene DeWitt, Kay Nordin, and brother Lloyd McGimpsey. Robert was born in Winnipeg, MB and at a young age his family moved to Stony Mountain where they owned and operated the post office and general store. As a young man Robert purchased the family store which he operated until 1966. Robert and Audrey moved with their three sons to Abbotsford, BC in 1967. A born salesman, Robert first worked at Eaton’s and then with much encouragement, work and determination became a well-known realtor in the Abbotsford area. Upon retirement Robert continued his love for golf but only golfed on days that ended in ‘y’. He enjoyed a glass of red wine, playing a game or two of crib and following the Blue Jays and Canucks. He truly lived the life he loved. This past summer we were thankful to celebrate his 90th birthday with many family and friends. Robert was a kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, BC. Reception to follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

…Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His Hand.
