Ronald James Cockroft

1928 - October 17, 2017

Ron passed away on October 17, 2017 in the comfort of Christine Morrison Hospice, Mission. He was a brilliant, charming gentleman.

Born into a loving family in Gadsby, AB. Parents: Charles and Nora, brothers: Robert (2008) and William, (Bill) 2010).

The family moved to Vancouver in 1940, where he attended Lord Bing and UBC and opened his own business in Park Royal (Park Florist, Cockroft & Company) at the age of 24. He served two years as President of Flowers Canada and three terms as President of Park Royal Merchants Association.

In his years of semi -retirement in Mission, BC he became a flower grower (Brenda Barr Nurseries). In full retirement he served his community as a volunteer with MCSS; as Senior's Counsellor for the District; and driver/dispatcher for the Canadian Cancer Society. He received the Community Service in 2006. His artistic talents remain in the numerous gardens he cultivated and the beautiful woodwork he crafted.

He leaves to grieve his wife, Sandy, children: Peter (Rebecca), Stephanie (Alan Brown), Michael (Denise). Grandchildren: Amanda (Cody Cobble), Devin (Desiree), Jayme, Jack, Samuel, and Carys. Greatgrandchildren: Hunter, Ethan and Charlotte. Brother-in-law, Ken (Lori) Martin, and the nieces and nephews he adored.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Pretorious, the Kidney Clinic and the workers of Fraser Health who allowed Ron many extra innings; The Alzheimer's and Cancer Societies for their support; and those dear friends and neighbours who remained loyal through his years of decline.
