COOKMAN; Ruth Marian

Born April 14, 1918 in Beverly (Edmonton) Died September 3, 2014

Ruth was raised with depression era prairie values where family and community were paramount. She met life with a stoic determination and a strong sense of duty. She did not shy away from adversity or drama, rather meeting life head on with pragmatic resolve. Never lamenting a lack of resources Ruth chose to simply get on with life and on with what needed to be done. Her sense of humour was larger than life; clever, witty, academic and intact until the very end. Ruth was a very giving person, caring for her invalid mother until she was 29 and volunteering to the community (Rebecca Lodge, Hospital Auxiliary, Anglican Church) while giving her all to her family and grandchildren. Ruth's strong values were core to her family and friendships; she was a pillar in her family her entire life and made friends for life. She set a high standard and expected nothing less from those she was close to. She travelled extensively, survived cancer and lastly dementia. Ruth was predeceased by her siblings (Tom Hedges, Catherine Wotherspoon), husband Cookie (1977), son Joseph (1953) and grandson Richard (2008). Survived by son John (Judith), grandson Abraam (Maude) and great grandchildren Patrick and Olivia. A Funeral Service will be held October 18, 2014 at All Saints Anglican Church, Mission at 2:00 PM.
