It is with great sadness that the family of Sophie Kryzanowski announces her passing on February 20, 2006 at the age of 91. Sophie and her husband Paul farmed in the Viking/Ranfurly area of Alberta for 50 years. Sophie then lived in Abbotsford, BC for the past 23 years.
Sophie is survived by her devoted daughters and loving sons-in-law: Olga (Frank) Kowalski, Joyce Desjarlais, JoAnn (Dale) Lauber, Kathleen (Ernie) Sloboda and Mary Anne Appleby; ten grandchildren: Jocelyn (Jeff) Bertram, Shelley Jo (Ed) Metera, Rick (Michelle) Desjarlais, Larry (Daphne) Desjarlais, Jacqueline (Tony) Stucchio, Paul (Tami) Sloboda, Rob (Donna) Sloboda, Gail (Dan) Ringler, David (Guylaine) Appleby, and Dale Appleby; and eleven great-grandchildren whom she adored without reservation: Ashley, Nicole, Victoria, Brandyn, Brett, Kiara, Jared, Ryan, Jarek, Autumn, and Devon; four sisters, one brother, many dear nieces and nephews, and special friend, Roy Deering. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Paul; daughter, Paulette Bricker; grandson, Benjie Appleby; nephew, Barry Machuk; her parents, Basil Laurente Motawelo and Teodora Motawelo Machuk; sisters, Annie Bandura and Nancy Draganiuk; and brothers Bill, Sam, Joe and Merron Machuk.
She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, for her wonderfully warm and welcoming generosity, and for the strength and love she brought to all around her. Sophie lived her life with enthusiasm and flair. She will be sadly missed, but will live on in the hearts of people she loved and touched.
Thanks to the doctors and staff of Worthington Pavilion for their compassionate care of Sophie and for the sympathetic cooperation shown to the family in the last days of her illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home in Abbotsford, BC. If so desired, a donation in Sophie's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
