Syds Tjepkema slipped away to be with his Maker on November 12, 2013. He leaves behind a legacy of a faithful life, loving the Lord and his fellow man. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Gerda, and his children Pieter (Agnes), Geraldine (Cornelis), Arnie (Janna), (Bernd & Tillia), Dorothy (Gabriel), 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Sylvia, grandchildren James and David, and brothers Rit, Johannes, and baby Wiebe. Syds was born in Oude Bilt Zijl, the Netherlands on December 3, 1927. He married Gerda on July 2, 1953, honeymooned to Canada, and eventually settled in New Westminster. Initially Syds worked as an instructor to handicapped children and later owned and operated Columbus Bakery in Sapperton. He retired to Abbotsford and enjoyed bringing the hope of the gospel through songs and deeds both here at home and as far away as Romania and Bulgaria. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Abbotsford Bibles For Missions Society, where Syds volunteered. A celebration of Syds' life will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 2 PM in Trinity CRC 3215 Trethewey Street in Abbotsford with Pastor Ken Greter officiating. Online condolences may be left at:
