1930 - 2018
Viola lived a life of service to others, filled with many meaningful accomplishments.
Her 29-year legacy in Africa (where she worked most of her medical career as a nurse practitioner) made a deep and lasting impact on the people of northeastern Congo. During that time, she raised four orphans, one of whom - Marc Kambere - and his family now live in Abbotsford. She was also a mentor/mother to another family - the Sebahanas - who immigrated to Ottawa.
Upon her return to Canada in 1983, Viola's nursing skills and dedication served new mothers in our community through the maternity ward of Mission Memorial Hospital.
She went home to meet Jesus on June 4, 2018 after several recent years in declining health.
Viola is survived by her husband Peter, son Allan (Gloria), grandchildren Gordon (Yoko), Steve (Terri Lynn), four great-grandchildren and the Ewert family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 16 in Parkside Church, 33837 Prentis Ave, Mission.
