LETTER: Mail service needs alterations

The idea of community post boxes is a bad one. Too many people would have difficulty getting to those due to a variety of conditions.

I have not seen any mail delivered in over a week. Small wonder; the mailman could hardly be blamed. Poor road conditions, piling snow banks, poor access to the front door of the houses and icy winds have made this service almost impossible.

The idea of community post boxes is a bad one. Too many people would have difficulty getting to those due to a variety of conditions.

A compromise solution might be as follows:

Home owners would have to provide for a curbside mail box, available from the Post Office, and mail could then be delivered using a small van or small car (Fiat) with right hand controls.

These cars are widely available from Great Britain. The driver can deliver the mail by just reaching over to drop the mail off. Just think; time wasted by the man on foot, who wanders down the street, in and out of each yard to reach the mail box by the front door.

The new method of delivery would save a lot of time and would employ fewer man hours thus compensating for the cost of the delivery cars. We do need to think smart, not be stuck in a rut without any imagination to move forward!
