LETTER: Reaching goals and aspirations may not be realistic

Reader feels bad for all the young people

I feel really bad for all the young people with their whole lives ahead of them, dreaming of having families, buying their first home (not in Vancouver, Victoria or Kelowna), becoming doctors, vets, Indigenous leaders, or, God forbid, politicians.

They must wonder if trying to achieve any of these goals and aspirations is realistic today.

The U.S. dropped the first H-Bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end the Second World War, citing that they saved thousands of American soldiers while killing thousands of Japanese citizens. We now have every leader of nuclear armed nations saying they have “the biggest button.”

This must make everyone, especially the young people, feel really optimistic. I think not – so very sad.
