The news that Mission’s Safeway is to close its doors on May 5 was indeed a sad surprise and shock for Mission, Safeway employees and all their loyal long-time customers.
Personally, I will miss the many familiar assistants who were unfailingly polite and helpful, and I think that many other people feel the same. Safeway is the only family-sized, all-encompassing hassle-free grocery store in Mission.
I can only hope that Safeway management reverses their decision, but I know that is a forlorn wish, as Safeway is not really “Safeway” but just a pawn of “Sobeys,” a huge conglomerate.
