A win and a loss for Canada’s women’s basketball team

Mission's Kim Smith and Teresa Gabriele contributed to Monday's win over Great Britain

Canada’s women’s basketball team, featuring Mission’s Kim Smith and Teresa Gabriele, squeaked out a win over hosts Great Britain Monday afternoon, 73-65.

The victory comes one day after being defeated by the Russian team 58-53; Canada had held a 10-point lead until late in the fourth quarter.

Smith recorded five three-pointers as part of the 20 she scored in that game.

This is Canada’s first Olympic appearance in basketball in 12 years, and Monday’s victory puts the nation in fourth spot in group B with three points.

The women will play again Wednesday against France.
