In the final results from Mission Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Garrett Bateman, Albany, Ore., and Greg Hunter, of Sheridan, Wyo., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, respectively.
Bateman worked his way through the field and ran 5.673 seconds at 255.46 mph in his final round victory over Cameron Ferre, of Huntington Beach, Calif., who clocked in at 7.738 seconds, 103.59 mph. Ferre had the starting line advantage until about 350 feet out when his chutes deployed and Bateman was able to drive around him to take the win. This was Bateman’s second career victory and his second win this season. He received his first win this year at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Woodburn Dragstrip.
Hunter faced off against Dave Germain, Toledo, Wash., and posted a winning run of 5.716 seconds, 255.60 mph in his ’10 Monte Carlo. Germain drove to a 6.471 second, 163.10 mph lap for his runner-up finish. Hunter was off the line first and was able to hang on to the lead and drive away from Germain to take his first Division 6 win.
In the Super Comp final, it was Jackson Gradin, Spokane, Wash., taking the win over Michael Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash. Gradin posted a winning run of 8.948 seconds, 157.86 mph over Dalrymple who posted a runner up finish of 8.973 seconds, 155.46 mph. Gradin and Dalrymple were identical on the tree but Gradin had the better run down the track and he picked up his first every Super Comp Wally.
The Harley-Davidson Racing Series presented by Harley-Davidson also appeared at this event and Tommy Grimes, Pfafftown, N.C. took home the win in Top Fuel Harley. Grimes, with his quickest pass of the day, posted a winning run of 6.346 seconds, 232.01 mph on his ’14 Harley. Grimes faced off against Damian Cownden, Victoria, B.C., who posted a run of 7.817 seconds, 128.42 mph to take the runner-up finish.
Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Ralph Van Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, in Comp Eliminator; Sean Cour, Brush Prairie, Wash., in Super Stock; Clarence Bidniak, Edmonton, Alb., in Stock Eliminator; Dave Kelly, Walla Walla, Wash., in Super Gas; and Tom Manfred, Liberty Lake, Wash., in Super Street. In the division’s Big Rentals Top Dragster and the RH Racecars Top Sportsman class it was Rod Andreas, Silverton, Ore., taking the win in Top Sportsman, while Wes Gravin III, Pasco, Wash., won in Top Dragster. The winners in the Harley-Davidson Racing Series presented by Harley-Davidson were Daryl Storzuk, Surrey, B.C. in Sportsman Motorcycle; William Bentz, Prescott Valley, Ariz., in Pro Fuel Harley; Clint Rabb, Lloydminster, Alb., in Pro Gas Harley; Victoria Bentz, Prescott Valley, Ariz., in Screamin’ Eagle Performance Harley; Marty Smestad, Seattle, Wash., in Draggin Bagger Harley; and Dave Toth, Medicine Hat, Alb., in Hot Street Harley.
