For the first time ever, a team from Mission has won the Mission Masters (60+) Bonspiel event.

The Mission rink consisting of Wes Bigham, Pat Vale, Bruce Handsides and Eric Weiss took down the second place team from Chilliwack during the event’s final at the Mission Granite Curling Club on Sunday.

In other MGCC news, the Region 11 Masters Playdowns, which was originally scheduled to occur at the club from Feb. 2 to 4 has been now moved to Feb. 16 to 18 and will run in conjunction with the Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association’s Regional Mixed Tournament.

This upcoming weekend features the U18 Region 11 playdowns as Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley youth boys and girls teams battle it out for the region championship. That event runs on Saturday and Sunday.

The event features eight boys and six girls teams competing for the championship.

Later in February is the Regional Mixed Doubles event, which runs from Feb. 23 to 25.

In addition to these events, the MGCC also runs regular weekly leagues including: open doubles (Mondays), men’s and stick league (Tuesdays), master men’s and ladies (Wednesdays), seniors mixed and open (Thursdays) and stick and social (Fridays).
