A short-handed North West team couldn't handle Fraser River-Delta in a female hockey match Friday afternoon.

Fraser River-Delta won 7-1, getting goals from six different skaters. Pint-sized Kirsten Abo had two. Jenna Velji, Courtney Vorster, Hannah Shihundu, Nicole Wong and Hailee Piendl had the others.

Myah Bowal had the lone North West goal.

With just 15 skaters, her team hung tough for 40 minutes but wilted in the third, coughing up four goals.

"Our team has bonded really well and we work together good," Abo said, assessing the Fraser River-Delta effort. "We were really good and really loud. We hear each other really well on the ice, and the communication is great."

In their next game, Saturday morning against a much tougher Thompson-Okanagan squad, Abo said they will have to fix some things.

"Getting the pucks to the net on the power play is one thing," she said. "On some shifts, we didn't even get one shot. But I think we're doing really well and we have a pretty good chance at going for the gold."
