Four Mission cheerleaders to represent Canada at world championships

Summer Lindt, Willow Van Nen, Taylor Buckman and Mckenzie Sexton will sport the maple leaf in April

Four Mission cheerleaders represent Canada at the 2023 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championship in April.

Mission residents Summer Lindt, Willow Van Nen, Taylor Buckman and Mckenzie Sexton made the cut for BC Sport Cheer’s Youth Team BC in June of 2022.

Lindt and Van Nen are both with the Mission Academy of Cheer while Buckman and Sexton are members of the Vancouver All Stars.

In mid-December, the BC team tried out to represent Canada at the world championships and completed a video application. On Jan. 20, the squad received word from Cheer Canada that their try-out was successful.

The team is comprised of athletes from throughout BC, with several cheerleaders making the commute from Kamloops to practice with the team.

The squad is set to showcase at the BC Provincial Championships in Victoria on March 3 and 4 before travelling to Florida for the ICU Junior World Championship from April 19-21.

The team will be fundraising in the near future to go to the world championship.
