Kodiaks open junior hockey season with 5-3 win

Shortly after hoisting their third league championship banner the Adergrove Kodiaks got back into their winning ways Wednesday night.

Assisted by fellow Kodiak veterans, Clayton Schroeder and Matt Oliver, Kyle Bosko notched the first goal of the new season on a power play just four minutes into the game against the Mission City Outlaws at Aldergrove Arena.

The Outlaws briefly took a 2-1 lead in the middle of the first period, before Kodiak rookie John Lee hit a perfect goal on Mission’s Keaton Dyck for the equalizer, assisted by Chase Manderville and Clayton Schroeder at 18:19.

The Kodiaks took the lead early in the second period and never gave it up after that. Kodiak scorers were captain Matt Oliver with a pair, and Jordan Desrosiers, assisted by Bosko, Davin Padgham (2), Hayden Vetterl, Cole Pisiak and Arjan Cheema. The Outlaws scored one on a power play in the second period, and the third period was scoreless for the 5-3 Kodiaks win.

Th Kodiaks outshot the Outlaws 45-26 that night and the game’s stars were Outlaws Kyle Mooney, and Kodiaks Matt Oliver and Clayton Schroeder.

Next up for the Kodiaks is an away game at Port Moody Panthers this Saturday, Sept. 9, before the Kodiaks host the Abbotsford Pilots Wednesday, Sept. 13, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.
