Luyken leads UFV Cascades in scoring Friday

Mission basketball player netted 15 points in Friday's effort against Huskies

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades split their weekend games falling to Saskatchewan Huskies, 75-65, in Saskatoon, on Friday and defeating the Alberta Pandas, 68-67, on Saturday. The Cascades go into the exams break with a 5-3 conference record in Canada West Western Division.

On Friday, the Cascades women's basketball team came out strong and led by four points at the half, 34-30. In the second half the Huskies outscored UFV by 14 points to earn the 10-point victory. Mission's Aieisha Luyken led the Cascades with 15 points, four assists and two steals.

On Saturday, UFV defeated the Alberta Pandas, 68-67. In this close game, UFV was able to send the Pandas to their second straight conference loss with a strong second quarter in which they overcame a seven-point deficit to go into the locker room up by two points, 37-35.

In the second half, UFV played strong defence and kept the Pandas from scoring the winning basket down the stretch.
