The UFV Cascades women’s basketball team defeated the UBC Thunderbirds, 65-57 on Friday, and fell at the buzzer to UBC 60-58, on Saturday, both games at the Envision Athletic Centre in front of 400-plus fans.

The Cascades record stands at 11-6, good for second place, as they have earned their first-ever home playoff series Feb. 24-26.

The Cascades, ranked 10th in the CIS top 10 poll, were led by Mission’s Aieisha Luyken, with 17 points and Saturday, Luyken was top scorer with 15 points. The third year kinesiology major recorded eight rebounds, six assists and three steals while averaging 32 minutes in the weekend split with UBC.
