Mission athletes compete at Special Olympics BC Summer Games

Locals take home medals in track, swimming and bowling

Mission athletes excelled at the 2017 Special Olympics British Columbia Summer Games, which ran in Kamloops from July 6 to 8.

Local teams cleaned up in the bowling competition, with the Mission High Rollers (division one) and the Mission Strikes-R-Us winning gold in their respective divisions.

The High Rollers were led by Liam Barry, who averaged a score of 175 to lead all males bowlers and Megyn Rees who led all female bowlers with an average score of 131.

Mission’s Matthew Burns was one of the most active competitors at the event, earning a silver in shot put, fourth place finishes in his division in long jump and 200 metres, and also finishing fifth in the 400m.

Swimmer Justin King scored silver in the 50m breaststroke and also placed fifth in the 100m freestyle.

Also competing at the event in track and field was Eshona DeBaat, who placed fifth in shot put, seventh in 100m and eighth in 200m in her division.
