Mission athletes excel at Valley track meet

Jesse Walker of Mission Secondary won silver in the senior boys 110m hurdles at the Fraser Valleys.

Local athletes fared well at the recent Fraser Valley high school track and field championships in Coquitlam, highlighted by triple-medal performances from Adam Lambert and Jesse Walker.

Lambert, from Hatzic Secondary, excelled in the throwing events, winning gold in the senior boys discus and hammer, and adding a bronze in shot put.

Mission Secondary’s Walker took silver in the senior boys 110-metre hurdles and long jump, and bronze in the 100m.

Jojo Calverly, Michael Lambert and Bryce MacKenzie, all of Hatzic, climbed to the top step of the podium. Calverly earned gold in the Grade 8 girls 400m hurdles and bronze in the 800m, while Lambert won the junior boys high jump. MacKenzie notched a gold medal in the Grade 8 boys triple jump, and added a silver in the high jump.

Parmvir Sandhu of Mission Secondary added a bronze in the senior boys discus.

The provincial track and field championships run this week at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park.
