Mission’s Braydon Arthur is speeding ahead with his racing career as an F4 driver in the 2023 Formula Pro USA Winter Series in California.
Arthur joined Doran Motorsports Group’s (DMG) driver lineup for the Winter Series that kicked off last Friday (Feb. 24) at the Sonoma Raceway in Napa, California. Arthur joins Australian Daniel Quimby and American David Burketh on the DMG roster.
“Braydon is coming from the Speed Fanatics Academy based in BC, Canada, a program run by Gary Kwong,” DMG’s Francois Doran said in a news release. “I think Gary has developed a great driver. I have never seen Braydon drive, but the word is that he is surprisingly fast. I foresee a great and exciting battle between him and Daniel.”
The Missionite will look to excel in the sport as a third-generation racer following in the footsteps of his grandfather, uncle, father, and brother.
“This will be a great opportunity to get quality seat time. It’s not every time that you get the chance to do four races and six days of racing at two different tracks within two consecutive weekends. This will be a great learning experience for our young drivers,” Doran said.
At Sonoma Raceway last weekend, Arthur endured a crash on Saturday and missed qualifying for Sunday due to the damage.
“I had a killer start and wound up leading the race overall for a few laps,” Arthur said in an Instagram post. “Corner workers had a bit of confusion throwing out double yellows when the track was green, which lost me a lot of time to second place. I ended up making a mistake and having a huge shunt with the wall in turn 10.”
The DMG team went to work overnight and got the car in working order, but Arthur started at the back for the Sunday race due to missing qualifying.
“When the green dropped on the Sunday race it was full wet,” Arthur said. “I had another great start and found myself last to second overall by turn three. I had a great battle with Daniel Quimby throughout the race and eventually fell to P2 with some bad timing on catching other cars.”
Arthur says the weekend was an overall a success and he has a lot of confidence heading into rounds three and four of the Winter Series at Thunderhill Raceway Park this weekend (March 3-5).
