The first ever U14 ski competition for Mission’s Emi Bryan turned out to be a memorable one.

Bryan, a member of the Hemlock Ski Team, made her debut in Whistler at the U14 slalom races event on Jan. 9. Her top finish was 29th out of 49 racers, and that result qualified her for the 2016 BC Winter Games ski races at Apex from Feb. 25 to 28.

The Mission native raced three times in Whistler in the competitive Coast Zone division, and the majority of the racers were older than her, and had more racing experience.

“Great skiing and training at Hemlock this winter along with hard work added up to good results,” said Rob Lahti, program director and head coach for Hemlock, and who used to race for Canada on the World Cup circuit.

It will be the first BC Winter Games for Bryan. The Games run from Feb. 25 to 28 in Penticton and its surrounding areas.

The Hemlock Ski Club provides ski racing opportunities for children and youth from four to 18 years of age. For more information about the Hemlock Ski Club and its ski racing program, please visit the ski club website at hemlockskiclub.com.
