A Mission speed skater reached the podium at the BC Long Track Championships in Fort St. John earlier this month and will compete at the Canadian Youth Long Track Championship in Quebec City next weekend.

Nora Calder glided to a third-place finish on the 400-metre track to earn a bronze medal in the U-13 youth female event for the Mission Racers.

Samaira Nemeth also competed in the event, finishing in fourth place.

‘It was really fun to race long track in Fort st. John. I loved hanging out with and competing against other skaters from other clubs across B.C.,” Nemeth said.

Calder and Nemeth will travel to Quesnel next month for the BC Winter Games. The pair will join five other athletes on the Fraser Valley team for the speed skating competition.

“I love all the places I get to travel to for speed skate and meeting skaters from all over Canada,” Calder said.

The Mission Racers will be hosting a Learn to Speed Skate program at the Mission Leisure Centre for 10 sessions beginning on February 13 in an effort to recruit skaters to the club.
