Dozens of racers from all over Western Canada and the Territories took over the Abbotsford Centre on Saturday and Sunday, with a handful of Mission speed skaters showcasing their skills.

The Canada West Short Track Speed Skating Championships saw the Green siblings again dominate in their respective divisions.

Mission’s Samuel Green took first place in the 12 male 1500 metres and the 200 m. Green earned 1,000 points in the 1500, finishing with a time of 2:33.763 minutes. He beat out the second-place competitor by almost four seconds. He also won his heat in the 200, beating out second place by over one second with a time of 22.292 seconds.

His older sister, Annabelle Green, earned first place in the 14 female 1500 m, beating out second place by a little more than .2 of a second. She finished the race in 2:57.489 minutes. She also finished second in the 200 m, narrowly missing out on first place by about 1.2 seconds. She completed the course in 22.08 seconds.

The strong showings at the Canada West event come on the heels of an outstanding performance at the B.C. Winter Games, in which the siblings won a combined six golds, one silver and two bronze medals.

Mission’s Jared Bolland also had a strong showing, with a pair of second-place finishes. He finished second in the 14 male 200 m (20.551 seconds) and second in the 1500 m (2:42.046 minutes).

Mission’s Asher Barnsdale finished second in his heat of the 13 male 200 m with a time of 22.361 seconds. Barnsdale also won gold at the B.C. Winter Games.
