It’s early, but the Mission Roadrunners senior girls volleyball team is off to a red-hot start.

The club sits atop the Tier 1 girls east standings with a perfect 3-0 record.

Mission picked up wins over G.W Graham (3-1 on Sept. 24), Sardis (3-1 on Oct. 10) and Yale (3-0 on Oct. 17).

Head coach Andrew Hale said the recent win over Yale was a big night for the entire Mission volleyball program.

“The girls started strong in front of a large and loud crowd and went up 14-1 to set the tone for the match,” he stated. “Janelle Matthysen hit .715 for the night and was player of the match, and Mo Likness led the way offensively with 10 kills.”

Several players from last year’s team that finished seventh overall in the AAAA provincials are back this year, including key seniors Makenzie Rourke, Matthysen and Anna Kvist.

Hale pointed out that Oct. 17 also saw the junior girls go a perfect 3-0 in their games and the senior boys sweep Yale 3-0.
