Louis ‘The Mission Kid’ Latour brought home a silver medal after a podium finish at the 2023 Canadian Powerlifting Union National Championships on Thursday (Feb. 16) in Richmond.

Latour finished in second place in the Junior Unequipped 3-Lift event with a 628 lb squat, 413 lb bench press and a 700 lb deadlift. He lifted in the morning on Thursday after he qualified for the 120kg weight class.

“It pretty much went according to plan,” Latour said. “There’s a lot of really strong lifters there and I was honestly just happy to be a part of such a great event.”

Last year, he finished just outside the podium and placed fourth nationally in the 105 kg weight class. The 2022 event was held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and he notched a 529 lb squat, 363 lb bench press and 600 lb deadlift.

Latour says the improvement is due to the consistency of his weekly training.

“That was ble to push me over the edge to go from fourth place up to the podium at the number two spot,” he said. “Just patience is pretty much all it took.”

The nationals wrapped up on Saturday (Feb. 18) after the event kicked off on Monday (Feb. 13).
