Mission speed skater Samuel Green continued a strong 2018-19 season on the ice with wins in three different distances, en route to a first overall finish in the 13-year-old boys division at the recent Canada West Short Track Championships in Grande Prairie, Alta.

Green won the 200-metre, 1500m and 2000m races at the event, which ran on March 23 and 24.

He won the 200m race with a time of 20.333 seconds and the 1500m with a time of 2:32.922 (over 3.5 seconds faster than the second-place skater). He also competed in the 400m race, but a fall slowed his time and took him out of podium contention. Green was also part of the 12/13 boys relay team that took home gold.

The championship caps off a successful season for Green, who also finished first at the provincial long track championships earlier this year. He also excelled at the Canadian Long Track Speed Championships on Feb. 8, which saw him finish first in the 300m, 500m and 3000m mass start events. He was also awarded the overall Canadian champion title for the 13-year-old boys age class.
