Coast Wrestling Club and Mission Secondary students, Alexia (46 kilograms) and Tori Seal (52 kilograms) returned home this week from the Cadet/Juvenile National Wrestling Championships in Windsor, Ont. with one gold medal apiece.

The event, which occurred from April 7 to 9, has traditionally been the primary event for ranking athletes for national team selections.

Tori also was awarded the award for most outstanding cadet wrestler.

This is the third national gold for Alexia and second for Tori.

Alexia also won gold at the the Junior Nationals at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont. in March. The sisters also cleaned up at the British Columbia High School wrestling provincials in Salmon Arm from March 2 to 4, winning gold medals in their weight divisions.

It’s the final year of high school competition for Alexia, who has recently signed on to the wrestling program with Simon Fraser University for the fall. Tori enters Grade 11 at MSS in September.

Both will be travelling to the Wrestling World Championships later this year. Alexia heads to the junior worlds in Norway, while Tori travels to Greece for the cadet worlds.
