Outlaws young and old came out to Mission Leisure Centre on Wednesday night for the annual Mission City Outlaws alumni game.

The alumni picked up a 9-8 victory in overtime over the young Outlaws. The younger squad fought back to force overtime with four third period goals but the alumni’s old man strength prevailed in overtime.

The Outlaws play the Ridge Meadows Flames at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night (Dec. 23) at Cam Neely Arena Planet Ice before a visit to Ladner Leisure Centre to play Delta on Tuesay night (Dec. 27).

Mission closes out the calendar year with matchups against North Vancouver and White Rock in the PJHL Winter Classic Showcase. The Winter Classic is a part of the regular-season schedule and features 13 games with each of the league’s teams playing twice. The showcase runs December 29 through January 1, 2023 at Minoru Arena in Richmond and will be available to stream on HockeyTV. Scouts are expected to be in attendance from Junior A teams, U Sports teams and colleges from across North America.

“We were nailed with some big injuries last month, which shook the cohesiveness a bit,” Outlaws captain Chase Newman said. “We brought in some new guys to offset but they’re healing really well and excited to get back in the lineup. Everyone’s spirits are high moving forward and a little holiday rest is good for them as they tend to come back really hungry.”

After the Winter Classic, the Outlaws will have a week-long break before resuming play on January 7 at Mission Leisure Centre against Richmond.
