Outlaws down Kodiaks 8-1, suffer losses to Abbotsford, Surrey and Chilliwack

Cooper Crowe scores twice to lead Outlaws to win that snaps five-game losing streak

The Mission City Outlaws bounced back from five consecutive losses to down the Aldergrove Kodiaks 8-1 on Wednesday (Oct. 23).

A pair of goals from Cooper Crowe powered Mission to victory at Aldergrove Community Centre and earned the forward first star of the game.

Seven different Outlaws scored in the contest, with Kael Kozicki, Rehaun Lidder, Max Wingrove, AJ Frigon, Cade Peden and Liam Van Der Hoeven all finding the back of the net.

Carter Greenway stopped 30 shots in the win, while Sam Weinstein-Smith also made 30 saves in a losing effort.

Mission followed up the win with a trip to Minoru Arena in Richmond for a matchup with the Sockeyes.

Richmond outshot Mission 15-9 in a scoreless first period before Crowe opened the scoring early in the second. After shorthanded and power play goals for the Sockeyes gave them the edge, Peden tied it up late in the frame to enter the final period deadlocked,.

However, the Sockeyes netted three goals in the first 10 minutes of the period to seize control. Frigon scored again for Mission but Richmond emerged with a 6-3 win.

The Outlaws suffered a pair of tough losses last weekend as well, with back-to-back games against the Abbotsford Pilots and Chilliwack Jets.

The Outlaws crossed the bridge to face the Pilots at MSA Arena on Friday (Oct. 18) after splitting the previous two games this season.

The prior games were nailbiters, but Abbotsford emerged with a 4-2 victory at home in Friday’s contest.

Van Der Hoeven opened the scoring for Mission in the fifth minute, but Ashton McDonaugh had the answer for Abbotsford shortly after. Near the midway point of the first period, Rhett Siaus gave the Pilots the lead.

Siaus potted another in the second to extend Abbotsford’s advantage and Connor Jarvis made it 4-1 heading into the third.

Crowe potted an unassisted goal for the Outlaws to cut into the deficit late in the third but it wasn’t enough.

Mission looked to bounce back at home the following evening against top-ranked Chilliwack.

The Jets defeated the Outlaws 6-1 in a game that saw the two squads combine for over 350 penalty minutes.

The third period was particularly chippy, with five Outlaws and five Jets picking up fighting majors and game misconducts.

Chilliwack scored twice on the power play and twice shorthanded on their way to a win, while Van Der Hoeven scored the lone goal for Mission.

The Outlaws currently sit fifth in the Harold Brittain Conference with a 4-10-2 record.

Mission hosts Surrey at the Leisure Centre on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 6:45 p.m.
