The Mission City Outlaws dropped their third consecutive game on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the White Rock Whalers at Mission Leisure Centre.

Zachary Sherwin’s two goals powered the Whalers to victory, scoring the eventual game-winner late in the second period. The Whalers outshot the Outlaws in each period and finished with a 30-17 advantage.

White Rock’s Bryce Margetson led all scorers with three points (1 G 2 A), while Sherwin (2 G), Kieran D’Souza (1 G 1A), Samuel Cordina (1 G 1 A), Chris Fortems (2 A), and Maxwell Kovach (2 A) all finished with two points. Mark Paton made 15 saves in the win and Brian Dale stopped 25 shots for Mission in a losing effort.

D’Souza opened the scoring for White Rock just under three minutes into the game but Brayden Chenier answered a few minutes later with his 12th of the season. However, Sherwin netted his first of the game less than a minute later to put the Whalers back ahead 2-1 heading into the second period.

In the third, the Whalers held off the Outlaws for a road win. Cordina made it 4-2 and Margetson scored on the power play to extend the Whalers’ lead to 5-2.

The final meeting of the regular season between the two teams comes on Dec. 30 at Minoru Arena for the PJHL’s Winter Classic.

Mission holds a narrow one point lead over the Chilliwack Jets for third place in the Harold Brittain conference with 36 points. The Outlaws carry an 18-13 record into the final stretch on 2022, with four games remaining in the year.

An alumni game at Mission Leisure Centre on Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. is next up for the Outlaws, followed by games against Ridge Meadows on Dec. 23, Delta on Dec. 27, North Vancouver on Dec. 29 and White Rock on Dec. 30.
