The Mission City Outlaws lost their fourth consecutive game on Tuesday night with a 6-3 defeat to the Delta Ice Hawks at Ladner Leisure Centre. The Outlaws fall to 18-14 on the season and remain in third place in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain conference. The Chilliwack Jets have as many points as Mission with 36, but the Outlaws hold the current tiebreaker and have a game in hand.

Mykhaylo Sheludchenko’s two goals powered the Ice Hawks to victory, while Caelan Mander’s three points off of a goal and two assists led all scorers. Delta captain Alec Scouras also tallied multiple points with a goal and an assist while Danylo Bereza chipped in two assists for the Ice Hawks.

Zach Shaughnessy turned aside 24 of 27 shots, while Brian Dale played the whole game for Mission, facing 53 shots and stopping 47.

Scouras scored first for the Ice Hawks and potted his 15th goal of the season just under six minutes into the game. Less than a minute later, Mander extended the lead with a shorthanded goal. Brayden Candy scored almost halfway through the period to cut the lead in half for the Outlaws but Sheludchenko had the answer and netted his first of the season to give Delta a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Early in the second period, Conner Merriman scored his 21st of the season to extend Delta’s lead to 4-1. Kade Padgham made an effort to close the gap with a power-play goal for Mission to head into the intermission down 4-2.

Sheludchenko scored his second of the game and of the season just over seven minutes into the third period and Carson Hemenway found the back of the net for the Ice Hawks to extend their lead to 6-2. Cole Moffat scored with less than five minutes remaining for the Outlaws but it was too little too late. Mission spent much of the third period on the penalty kill, picking up five penalties in the final frame.

The Outlaws had their Dec. 23 game against Ridge Meadows postponed due to the weather and will now look to close out 2022 on a high note with a pair of games in the PJHL’s Winter Classic at Minoru Arena in Richmond. The Outlaws play North Vancouver on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. before another matchup with the White Rock Whalers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

The squad makes their return to Mission Leisure Centre on Jan.7 for a showdown with Richmond at 6:45 p.m. after a week break.
