The Mission City Outlaws raised awareness for breast cancer with their “Pink at the Rink” game at the Leisure Centre on Saturday (Oct. 26),

Former Outlaw Owen Elson escorted his grandmother, two-time breast cancer survivor Janet Elson, to centre ice for a ceremonial puck drop with both team captains.

Janet’s other grandson Rylan Elson was able to propel the Outlaws to a strong start against the Surrey Knights and opened the scoring in the first minute.

Ashton Holbech added to the advantage shortly after and Wingrove netted another in the eighth minute to provide the ‘Laws with a 3-0 lead after one period.

Parkor Sarai got the Knights on the board five minutes into the second, but Tyler Ferguson was able to extend Mission’s lead to 4-1 in reply.

However, Surrey capitalized on their opportunities from there. The Knights scored four unanswered goals, including a game-winning power-play goal from Noah Iacutone late in the third, to complete the comeback.

The loss drops the Outlaws’ record to 4-11-2 on the season. They sit fifth in the Harold Brittain Conference standings with 10 points – one point ahead of Surrey.

Mission hosts the Port Moody Panthers at the Leisure Centre on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 6:45 p.m. before a visit to Langley on Sunday.
