The Mission City Outlaws adjusted to life without leading scorer Baylee Wright on Saturday, picking up a 4-1 win over the Surrey Knights at the Mission Leisure Centre.

Wright, second in the Pacific Junior Hockey League in scoring, has been picked up by the British Columbia Hockey League’s Langley Rivermen.

Mission fared well without their top scorer against the Knights, opening up a 2-1 lead after one, and adding goals in the second and third periods.

Michal Holub, Tyler Wickman, Justin Bowerman and Jacob Dorey all tallied for the Outlaws.

The win extends Mission’s home winning streak to five, and the team now has a record of eight wins, seven losses and two overtime losses on home ice.

Holub, Bowerman, Matthew Mason and Nicolas Bizzutto all recorded multi-point games in the win, while Outlaws goalie Keaton Dyck made 29 saves for his sixth win of the season.

Dyck told the Outlaws blog that hard work helped Mission earn the win.

“I was pretty happy with how hard the boys competed,” he said. “We came together to help us get out of the slump we were in. Even when we had a bad break, I wasn’t worried because of how hard we were working, especially on our penalty kill. We had to grind this one out.”

Mission killed six of seven penalties, and went zero for four with the man advantage against the Knights.

The Outlaws record now stands at 13 wins, 19 losses and two overtime losses, and they remain in fourth place in the Harold Brittain conference.

Mission squares off against the Knights tonight (Friday) on home ice. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Mission Leisure Centre.
